I’ve been on summer break for almost a month but last week felt like my first official week of summer. I moved back into NYC and started working at Estee Lauder Companies! I’m a marketing intern at Origins for North American markets and specifically focusing on specialty-multi distribution at Sephora and Ulta. It’s always fun to look back at old posts and see what my life was like at the time so I thought it would be nice to document my summer in weekly posts. Read more:
On Tuesday after work, I went to the Glossier Haloscope launch party at the Glossier Penthouse in TriBeCa. You can read my post about the launch party here and my review and swatches of Glossier Haloscope here.
I’ve been running into people I know on the street all the time. It’s so bizarre. I saw my high school friend on the subway, I ran into a girl from school in Times Square while waiting in line for bubble tea, I saw a former co-worker in Union Square, etc. While I was walking to Spot Dessert Bar on Friday, I ran into two people from high school and eight of us from high school/college ended up going to Spot together and it was nice catching up. What a small world we live in.
On Saturday, three of my friends and I went to brunch at Freemans. It’s a super cute gem of a restaurant hidden in an alleyway. I’ve been wanting to go since freshman year and I finally made the trip there for a meal.
The entrance to Freeman’s is so cute with the bike, blue door, shrubbery and fairy lights.
My friend Gordon brought his very fancy Polaroid so I got to take a picture in front of Freemans with it. I love Polaroids, it’s nice having something substantial instead of digital and they’re the perfect size to scrapbook.
After brunch, we went to Smorgasburg, a food flea market in Brooklyn. It was my first time!! Very overwhelming. So many choices. We ended up getting fries with different dipping sauces and fish and chips and eating next to the water.
For dessert I got a chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich, my favorite. Chipwiches are my weakness. Highly recommend getting it if you decide to go to Smorgasburg!
Smorgasburg is close to Artists and Fleas so I made a quick trip there and bought an art print from my friend Eve! She’s super talented and her work is amazing. The print I got was Albert Einstein as an owl. She also has a piece that is Frieda Kahlo as an owl and I plan on getting that one next. You can view her work here.
We went into this cute boutique/coffee shop that also had an outdoor balcony. It’s what I imagine my dream store to look like if I were to open one myself. Brooklyn has so many cool places and I definitely want to explore it more this summer, especially since I finally have an unlimited metro card.
I’ve been going over to Wall Street because Tiff, Kristina and Karen have been doing a lot of baking and cooking. They started watching The Great British Baking Show so they keep making scones. Tiff bought the confetti cookie mix from Momofuku Milk Bar. For dinner on Saturday, we had beef bulgogi, vegetables, two types of scones and confetti cookie ice cream sandwiches with vanilla gelato in the middle. SO GOOD.
On Sunday, Karen, Tiff and Kristina hosted brunch at their apartment in Wall Street. We had pancakes, toast with salmon and cream cheese, eggs, sausage and scones. Super yummy.
I ended the week with my library/reading buddy, Kristina. She helped me get my New York Public Library card!! On Sunday, we went to the NYPL and read outside. It’s one of my favorite places in the city.
