Today’s blog post is a little bit different than what I normally write about. I usually discuss the products that I have discovered that I love but this time around, I’m talking about products that didn’t live up to my expectations. Read more for detailed reviews and my thoughts on these products that I had high hopes for but ultimately did not live up to the hype.
1. Dr. Brandt Magnetight Age Defier
I thought this mask had an interesting concept that I was very excited to test out. It’s essentially a face mask that you can remove with a magnet. It’s fun in concept, but very messy in execution. You have to put a paper towel over the magnet that they provide you with (the metal triangle) in order to remove the mask. I accidentally got some of the mask onto the magnet itself and it was basically impossible to clean the mask off of the magnet. The metal particles from the mask stick to the magnet. You can see in the picture that the triangle magnet has some of the mask still on it. Also, even after removing the mask, there was still an oily residue left on my face.
2. Agent Nateur No. 3 Deodorant
I have to say, everyone seems to love this natural deodorant. Even Emma Watson uses it! Because of all the great reviews, this was the deodorant I chose when I wanted to make the switch to a natural deodorant. Sadly not for me, it was too harsh. I have sensitive skin so I think I may be sensitive to baking soda. People recommend getting apple cider vinegar and using it before applying the deodorant but for me, it is just too much of a hassle. I don’t want to have to take the extra step. Long story short, I am still in the market for a natural, aluminum free deodorant.
3. May Lindstrom Blue Cocoon
This is another cult classic that everyone seems to love. It has the very hyped about blue tansy oil. At $180 for 1.69 oz, this balm is very very expensive. I purchased it because it claims to help eczema because of its calming properties. I’ve heard so many good things about the Blue Cocoon and really wanted to love this, but it ended up making my eczema worse. I also used it as an eye treatment, which is another recommended use for the balm, and it made the area around my eye very red and swollen. I had such high hopes for the Blue Cocoon so I was a little disappointed that it didn’t live up to my expectations.
Also, I know that some people claim that this balm is good for treating acne, but when I spoke to a beauty advisor at Follain, she specifically recommended against it. She said that the shea butter can end up clogging pores and making your acne worse and recommended that it is best for people with very dry skin.
4. Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment
This eye cream seems to be one of the more popular ones out there and has a ton of good reviews. My friends Karen and Tiff also purchased it because of the great online reviews but we all felt let down by the product. The eye treatment kind of just sits on top of the skin and made the skin around my eye super oily/shiny. It also doesn’t blend well with makeup or play well with other skincare, which was a bummer.
5. Urban Decay Subversion Lash Primer
This lash primer was included in one of the Sephora Favorites sets I purchased recently. The idea is that you use this lash primer before applying your mascara for thicker, longer lashes. The lash primer dries in a white color and then you apply your black mascara over it. However, it ended up being so clumpy. It’s also very hard to cover up all of the white so even after I do multiple coats of black mascara, you can still see some of the white primer on my lashes.
6. Lashfood Phyto-Medic Eyelash Enhancer
My problem with this lash serum was mainly with the packaging. There is only a couple milliliters in the container itself, but the packaging is so large? When I opened the product and use the brush, it seemed like there was no lash serum on the brush. It didn’t feel like I was applying anything to my lashes.
