The Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream is one of my holy grail items. It made it onto my Favorite Skincare Products of 2016 post, which is a big deal when you consider the large amount of items I test throughout the year. I mentioned previously that after I tried it the first time, I bought four more. I even bought one for my boyfriend to use. I am obsessed!!! It is truly such a great skincare product discovery. Read more for my detailed Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream review to see why it is one of my holy grail beauty items.

You might be thinking, what exactly is this blue calming cream? It was designed to soothe sensitive or irritated skin. It can be used to calm skin that is sunburnt, a face with post-shaving redness or even skin that has irritation after acne treatments or laser procedures. Essentially, the cream helps protect the skin from stress and combats redness.

The blue color of the Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream is a result of guaiazulene, a component found naturally in blue chamomile essential oils. It’s really important to me that this color is naturally occurring. I absolutely hate it when brands use artificial coloring and dyes just to make something a certain color for marketing or aesthetic purposes.

Guaiazulene is known for calming inflamed skin and encouraging the regeneration of skin cells in areas with damaged skin tissue. According to some Japanese clinical trials, guaiazulene has demonstrated effects of 89.7% in sunburns and 60.6% in eczema. I sometimes use this for my eczema on spots that are super inflamed and it works like a charm. It really does help to soothe the skin and alleviate the itchiness.

The other key ingredient is centella asiatica extract, known more commonly as tiger grass. It’s a plant native to Madagascar that helps to prevent scarring and regenerate damaged skin. This ingredient further solidifies the Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream as a good option for people suffering from eczema.

Texture wise, the blue cream is incredibly smooth and silky. I cannot talk enough about how much I love the consistency. It is extremely soothing when you apply it on the skin and easy to spread. A small amount goes a long way.

I’ve said this before, but I use this at night and wake up with zero redness and nothing but soft skin. I use it after I put on my acne medication, since that is usually quite harsh on my skin, especially if it contains benzoyl peroxide. The cream is made for oily, acneic and sensitive skin types so I like that I don’t have to worry about it clogging my pores.

This sounds awesome! My skin type is more dry-sensitive, so I wonder if it would still work for me.

It still works! You can just layer a lotion or a cream over this soothing cream if you need extra hydration.
