a beauty brand rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, inspired by my grandmother. A few months after launch, the brand was picked up by Sephora! It was a challenging time balancing my full time job with this side hustle. At the time, the brand didn’t even have a warehouse so I was packing and shipping out thousands of pounds of products a week in the evenings and weekends while working normal hours at my day job. In August of 2018, I left corporate life to pursue entrepreneurship full-time. There have been amazing moments but also a ton of growing pains as I’ve bootstrapped this business to seven figures. I’m here to share my experiences, tips and lessons learned to help anyone else who might be on this journey as well.

While in college on my 20th birthday, I started Collection of Vials, a beauty blog + instagram account dedicated to all things skincare. (For more info on my Collection of Vials journey, you can read my post here.) I loved skincare and e-commerce so much that my first full-time job out of college was on the e-commerce team of Clinique.

It started with a lighting bolt, both literally and figuratively.

It started with a lighting bolt, both literally and figuratively. Literally, it was a lightning bolt necklace I made out of polymer clay when I was 15 years old to wear to the midnight viewing of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Figuratively, it was the spark that turned my love for arts & crafts from a hobby to a business. I posted a picture of the lightning bolt necklace I made on Tumblr (back when Tumblr was still a thing) and to my surprise, people actually messaged me asking if they could buy it! I used $100 of my birthday money, opened an e-commerce store with only 5 products, promoted the store through social media and it grew from there. By the time I graduated from high school, this little online store had made five figures in revenue and shipped to over 30 countries. (For full details, you can read my post here.)
